Moyclare Garden visit 4th April 2018

Gardening group Wed 4th April 2018

On this kind-weather day, twenty one of us met up at the friendly Crow’s Nest pub, Darite, nr. Liskeard for our delicious pre-ordered lunches while catching up with friends.

We then drove on to Moyclare garden, Moyclare, Lodgehill, Liskeard where we were met by Phillip Henslowe (owner) who directed us to parking.

In the garden (joined by another group member) we met Elizabeth Henslowe (owner) who is the main gardener.  She gave us an interesting talk about the garden’s history and layout. This flat, one- acre very varied garden was established in 1927, extended in 1936 by the Reids and is now owned by their niece, Elizabeth, and her husband, Philip.

We then explored along meandering paths with such a variety of beautiful mature trees and shrubs. Lots of colour from evergreen and variegated leaves.  Flowering Camellias and various Spring flowers under the trees and in open areas. The walk also took us past a lovely pond with frogspawn and some tadpoles!

After our very enjoyable exploration of the garden we were welcomed into the tearoom shed for refreshments. Nearby were shelves of plants for sale.
