March 21st. Art in the Service of Science. Phil and Debbie Wilson
This talk introduces the work of Philip and Debbie Wilson, medical and scientific illustrators. Starting with Leonardo da Vinci, they describe how medical illustration has been used throughout the centuries to communicate advances in anatomical and surgical knowledge, and how artists today use innovative modern techniques to continue this work. In 1949 the Medical Artists’ Association of Great Britain was founded and their talk will showcase the wide range of artwork produced by its members, from forensic imagery to surgical procedures, disease conditions and 3D artworks, and scientific illustrations ranging from veterinary anatomy to dinosaur reconstructions!
