Bude & District U3A holds 10 OPEN MONTHLY MEETINGS a year with a Speaker. These are held at 2.30pm at the Parkhouse Centre, Bude on the 3rd Thursday of every month except October (our Annual General Meeting) and December (our Christmas Festivity).
The OPEN MONTHLY MEETINGS are free and include refreshments.
Visitors are welcome to come along to a meeting to see what we do and to decide whether they would like to join us.
This month’s presentation was scheduled to be by Roy Wood, and the subject was to be “How to Enjoy a Healthy and Wealthy Retirement”.
Unfortunately, Roy has been taken very ill and is unable to give us his presentation. We wish him a speedy recovery.
However, Christine Williams (one of our U3A members) has very kindly offered to step in to give us a talk on the “Hawker of Morwenstow”.
So, come and spend a while with Christine in the company of Rev Robert Hawker of Morwenstow (1803 -1875) who is remembered today as an eccentric clergyman from a remote Cornish parish. A controversial figure, when he died he was unjustly described in The Church Times as a ‘blasphemous rogue and scoundrel’. But he was also an Oxford scholar, a poet, a mystic and above all, a man of deep compassion who did so much for his parishioners and the sailors who were shipwrecked on the rugged North Cornish coast and whose memory has endured long after many of his contemporaries have been forgotten.
