This month’s subject is

Travels in Bhutan  – Rosemary Lee

This talk offers an illustrated introduction to the mysterious Kingdom of Bhutan in the eastern Himalayas, explaining its historic isolation and more recent opening to the outside world. We will look at the traditional lifestyle and costumes which are preserved on the orders of the king himself and the Bhuddist faith which underpins everyday life throughout the country. This includes a visit to one of the most important religious festivals of the year with masked dances designed to repel devils. There will be pictures of the capital city, Thimpu, and also countryside villages and wildlife, including the strange and very rare Takin, national animal of Bhutan.
