Bude U3A Gardening group Wed. May 1st. ‘19
On this kind weather day 17 of us met at the friendly Archer’s Arms pub, Lewannick, nr. Launceston to enjoy our pre-ordered lunches & catching up with friends.
We then set off for National Garden Scheme Trebartha Gardens opened for us also near Launceston where we were joined by two more members & welcomed by Caroline & Moira Latham, members of the owner family, also Jim Briggs head gardener.
After a brief intro talk & a printed hand-out to each of us from Caroline, we all set off to explore these historic landscape gardens with ponds, streams with lovely tumbling waterfalls & huge rocks. Through wonderful, mostly very mature, in leaf varied trees under which & on many banks so many beautiful Bluebells. Further on many colourful Azaleas & more bluebells. Sadly many Rhododendrons had been removed because of infection. We visited Moira’s colourful garden & the Walled garden. We had also seen many wild flowers on our nearly two hour circular walk.
Eventually back to the old laundry building where we had first met up & treated by Caroline to drinks with delicious homemade cakes & more good chats with friends.
