Rocks & Ruins

This is the June meeting of the Rocks and Ruins group:

‘The Rocks & Ruins Group recently had a fascinating guided walk with mining expert Rick Stewart to Wheal Sheba, Luckett, Callington.  From the way we are dressed it is hard to believe this was actually June but despite the inclement weather, 28 of the group enjoyed being taken through the beautiful woodlands to learn more about this area of industrial archaeology.  Rick was able to make this a lively, informative and insightful glimpse into the mining operations which had taken place over the centuries, from mediaeval tin mining operations to 19th century copper mining. After lunch at the nearby Engine House restaurant, bad weather meant a planned visit to Kit Hill had to postponed but many of us will make a return visit to Wheal Sheba to enjoy this lovely woodland walk. ‘
