Gardening Group

U3A Gardening group   Wed. July 3rd. ‘19.

On this lovely sunny day, the Gardening group met up first for our pre-ordered lunches. The twenty-two of us were comfortably seated round a long table at the Halwell Junction Inn, not far from Holsworthy then served with delicious lunches.

We then drove a little further to Winsford Walled garden, Winsford Lane, Halwill Junction, created in the 1880’s; opened for our group. With six more members, we explored the very colourful varied areas with so many different flowers, shrubs, trees & tall Bamboos. Many climbing plants up the attractive high walls. Also vegetables in the two restored Victorian  glasshouses. The owner & artist Dugald Stark in his wheelchair accompanied us & answered our questions.

After our walk round the lovely garden we had two more treats. Refreshments from Mrs. Adel Stark while sitting outside the house & a visit to the art gallery overlooking the garden where Dugal Stark displays his wonderful colourful oil paintings.
