Gardening Group

U3A Gardening group   Wed. 7th. August.

On this kind weather day 28 of our Gardening group met at the Cranford Inn near Great Torrington where we enjoyed a delicious varied buffet lunch & a good catch-up with friends.

After lunch we drove on to the Croft Garden, also near Great Torrington where we met up with 7 more members & welcomed by owners Sam & Margaret Jewell to this NGS garden opened especially for us.

Margaret (the main gardener), gave us an interesting talk about this one acre plantswoman’s garden.

We then explored this beautiful, colourful varied garden with many paths round many areas, including a Japanese garden, a Tropical garden with exotic shrubs & perennials, lots of herbaceous borders with such a variety of plants & shrubs, a bog garden with a collection of Irises. A pond with Koi carp & a duck pond.

We concluded our visit sitting comfortably outside & treated to drinks & delicious cakes while having good chats.
